How the 90/180 rule works

Visitors from visa-free countries such as the US, UK, Canada and Australia can spend at most 90 days in any rolling 180-day period in the Schengen Area. On any date, count the days you were in a Schengen country during that date and the 179 days before it. Entry and exit days both count, and the 90 days are shared across all 29 countries.

Questions

How does the Schengen 90/180 rule work?

On any date, count the days you were in the Schengen Area during that date and the 179 days before it. The total must be 90 or less. Entry and exit days both count, and the 90 days are shared across all 29 countries.

How do I know when I can come back?

Add your trips and the calculator shows the earliest date you can re-enter, and how long you could then stay, by checking each day as old days roll out of the 180-day window.

Do Bulgaria, Romania, Cyprus and Ireland count?

Bulgaria and Romania count (full Schengen members since 1 January 2025). Cyprus and Ireland do not count; they are in the EU but not in the Schengen Area.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your trips are stored on your device. There are no trackers, and the calculator works offline once it has loaded.
